The blended learning model is an innovative approach to learning guitar that combines online learning with live coaching. It essentially leverages the flexibility that online courses offer with the accountability and support that a student receives from in-person coaching. In this approach, students utilize online course learning for their step-by-step beginner guitar curriculum, while also meeting with a qualified guitar instructor who monitors their progress and helps them as they work through the course. The blended learning path essentially includes all of the benefits of online course study & traditional guitar lessons combined!
The Ultimate Beginner Success Program
The goal of the Ultimate Beginner Success program is to enable the beginner student to graduate from beginner to intermediate level guitar playing within one year. Here's how the program works:

Upon enrollment you'll receive the chance to schedule a short student - teacher meet & greet. The meet & greet is a great way for us to get to know each other and it gives me a chance to encourage your student right at the beginning of their guitar journey.

Designed specifically for kids & teens, the Ultimate Beginner Guitar Course will provide the step by step curriculum that will take your student's playing from the beginner to intermediate level within one year!

Hello, my name is David Osborn and I have been teaching guitar professionally for over 20 years. In 2005 I developed a guitar program designed specifically for kids & teens after finding that there weren't any "cool" guitar programs for kids available (not unless you think learning "twinkle, twinkle, little star" is cool). In 2014, I created an online version of the same program that has now helped thousands of kids & teens get good at guitar in the fastest and funnest way possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Ultimate Beginner Guitar Course was designed for ages 8 - 16. Due to the dexterity and coordination involved in playing guitar, we recommend piano as an excellent first instrument for children younger than age 8.
Both acoustic & electric guitars are welcome! All of the material found in the Ultimate Beginner Guitar Course can be played on either acoustic or electric guitar. Many of the lessons in the course were filmed using an electric in order to acquire better audio-video control (plus, electrics look so cool!), however the course has been designed so that either guitar can be used.
As long as the student is still at the beginner level they can enroll. However, if the student is already nearing the intermediate level (e.g., they can already switch easily between chords, play along with songs, play melodies and simple guitar solos, etc.) it may be better to look for a more advanced program. If you need guidance in determining if this program is the right fit for your child, feel free to use the contact form below and we will help assess your child's current playing level.
We want you to be certain that this program is the right fit for your student. As such, we allow all families to "test drive" the program for 30-Days. If you find that the U.B.S.P. is not the right fit for your child / teen then we will gladly refund your enrollment-- no questions asked! : )
Yes and no. Students that already have a guitar and are ready to start can join the coaching sessions immediately. However, students that need to delay the start of their guitar studies can do so as needed. The one year access to coaching sessions begins once the student attends their first coaching session.
There are multiple group coaching opportunities given throughout the week. All students & parents will receive an email on Sunday with the days & times for the upcoming week. Further, coaching sessions are divided between students that are nearer the beginning of their learning journey ("phase 1 students") and those that are a little further along ("phase 2 students")--this way we can give more targeted instruction to each student!
The group coaching sessions generally run 45 minutes to an hour. The itinerary varies, but usually consists of 1) reviewing material that students are working on in the U.B.G.C., 2) teaching fun songs and exercises that aren't included in the U.B.G.C. (downloadable sheet music is provided), and most importantly, 3) answering each student's questions and giving feedback on their playing.
Enrolled students will receive a total of 48 coaching sessions throughout the year (an average of 4 coaching sessions per month). As long student attend the majority of the coaching sessions and are consistent in working through the course they will definitely reach the goal of graduating from beginner to intermediate level guitar playing within one year--and have a lot of fun along the way!
